New York, New York
Martina Navratilova and Julia Lemigova announced their engagement today, when Ms. Navratilova surprised Ms. Lemigova by proposing to her during the men's semi-finals at the US Open tennis championships in New York City. The couple has been together for six years and now live in Miami, Florida with Lemigova's two school aged daughters.
"I have been waiting for the right time to ask Julia to marry me. I thought this was the right place and the right time to pop the question and thankfully I got a 'yes'," said a relieved and happy Navratilova, a four–time winner of the women's singles championship here. Lemigova added "We are very happy together and Martina has made our family complete."
Navratilova is at the US Open in her capacity as one of the Tennis Channel's lead on-air commentators. She is also an ambassador for the WTA Finals in Singapore through 2018. She is also a long-time advocate for civil rights, animal welfare and environmental issues. Lemigova is the founder of Russie Blanche, a manufacturer and distributor of luxury skin care products.
